To stop the continued attacks against our industry over the years and to change the federal government’s position on UV light, the American Suntanning Association has attended thousands of meetings in Washington, D.C. These meetings include members of Congress, Senators and officials from every major agency that impacts the indoor tanning industry. Plus, ASA continues to travel to dozens of state hearings, working hard to stop damaging state regulations and under-18 tan bans that have now escalated to under-21 bans in several states.
As long as there are powerful groups that profit from the fear of UV light, attacks on our industry will continue. These attacks are highly coordinated efforts from very influential and well-financed organizations and are difficult to stop. Though ASA has the plan, the science and the team to get the job done, we need more resources if we are to succeed against future attacks from our much larger opponents.
The amount of resources required to maintain such an effort is very substantial. And, it’s not just the travel and labor required to attend hundreds of meetings each year. ASA must also compile, review and process relevant science and data for materials used to defend our industry’s position at the various meetings, hearings, and special events. And, though the ASA has a strong team working for you, there is still only so much this group can do without your help. To win this battle waged against our industry and your business, we need tanning salon owners whose businesses are being defended by these efforts to get involved.
Isn’t the future of your business worth the cost of a cup of coffee?
Smart business owners understand that they must protect their businesses from potential devastation by investing in business insurance. If you are a business owner in the tanning industry, you cannot afford to go without the only proactive insurance plan that is keeping your business from being closed down by overregulation, taxes and more.
Supporting the ASA can be done in a number of ways. Step One is to become an ASA member. Supporting your tanning association can cost as little as the cost of that latte you buy every morning. Becoming a member and making a financial contribution to the ASA is the single most important way to secure the future of your business. If you’re not a member of the ASA, you should stop what you’re doing and join right now.
Another way to contribute is to join ASA’s Lotion Program. With the support of every major distributor in the country, salon owners add twenty-five cents to every bottle of lotion to be donated to the ASA. This is a simple financial commitment that can do wonders for the future of your business.
I know what you’re thinking right now: “How do I get out of writing a check?” Or, “I had a bad year last year, so I can’t afford to pay the dues right now.” And, “I’ve never paid for this before and things seem to be fine.” Remember, while you’re debating this issue, more than a dozen powerful anti-tanning groups are working on plans to close your business.
For the price of your daily coffee, you can ensure that your business has a future. Isn’t the future of your business worth the cost of a cup of coffee?
Founded in 2012, the American Suntanning Association is committed to defending and growing the industry through a detailed and proactive plan directed by an all-salon board and executed by more than two dozen management and consulting team members who specialize in this type of work.
