Through many challenges over the years, the tanning industry has always been resilient. The foundation of that resiliency is that when people have a tan, they feel better. Summer is quickly approaching and that means swimsuit season. It also represents pent-up demand for indoor tanning salons.

Here are some points to remember:

•         Right now, people are really looking for ways to feel better about themselves.
•         Indoor tanning salons have the means to help make it happen.

We truly believe that our industry will come back strong after these challenging times. As tanning professionals, we know there are only three ways to get that golden glow that so many seek: uncontrolled outdoor UV exposure; controlled indoor UV exposure; sunless tanning. The professional UV-tanning experience offered in your facility cannot be recreated at home. So, people are going to come to your business to re-establish their tanning and skin care routines. Many will have used up their vacation time and will be staying close to home; however, they still want to look and feel good. Think of it this way: people can do many of their own beauty services at home – they can address the grey hair, do their own manicures, waxing and even give themselves facials, but there is no “DIY” option for them to get the beautiful, golden tan to which they are accustomed.

Taking an optimist’s view, your tanners will be back with positive energy and many stories to share. The good news is they WILL be back. Your salon is the vacation they need and can afford. You make people look good and feel good!

Our industry is comprised of seasoned and committed entrepreneurs. Throughout the years, we have changed and grown together and expanded our business offerings to maintain strong profit centers. I am sure many of you already have other spa services and retail products on your menu. These same services and items, along with your well-trained staff, will be the reason that your customers will be eager to be back in your salon and experiencing all you have to offer.
