Savvy entrepreneurship recently led experienced Palm Beach Tan franchisee, Lone Star Tan LLC, to find a niche market in the Boise, ID area.
Recognizing that tanning and fitness have long been complimentary, Vice President and Partner Scott Pirnie saw the opportunity to acquire and convert local tanning salons owned and operated by fitness chain Axiom Fitness to Palm Beach Tan Salons. The Axiom salons are located inside their state-of-the-art fitness centers. After acquiring the salons from Axiom in January, they were immediately converted to full service PBT salons. Now, these fitness customers are enjoying all the features and benefits of being PBT members.
“As the tanning business continues to evolve, it’s important to always keep the customer’s convenience in mind,” said Pirnie. “It just makes sense to partner with existing quality fitness brands to offer full-service tanning from an industry-leading brand.”
Pirnie and his partners at Palm Beach Tan franchise group, Lone Star Tan LLC, opened their first salon in 2003 in Austin, TX. Since then, through both acquisitions and organic growth the team has expanded to 23 salons in Boise, ID; Salt Lake City, UT and Austin and San Antonio, TX.
In addition, Pirnie has served as member of the PBT Franchise Advisory Committee and remains active in collaborating with both corporate and franchise partners to leverage customer insights and behaviors to discover innovative ways to expand member loyalty, attract new customers and extend the brand’s reach in his local markets and beyond.
A retail veteran, Pirnie spent more than 20 years with BLOCKBUSTER in both corporate operations and marketing, but primarily was on the franchise side of the business.
“The PBT support system gives us the ability to quickly identify new opportunities in our markets for both internal growth in our existing salons and for expansion to new markets,” said Pirnie. “With the continued support of the business model and franchisee resources, we look forward to continued healthy growth.” ■
