Is it really November already?
For some people, myself included (a self-proclaimed “basic girl”), fall means pumpkin-spice everything, UGG boots, infinity scarves and yoga pants. Memes and jokes flood the Internet, calling these fall staples “basic.” Now, when you do a simple Google search of “top signs that you’re basic,” most of the results perfectly describe my everyday life, and I’m sure many of you can relate. I love Mean Girls quotes, the color pink, Starbucks (Hello! I am from Seattle!) and Fro-Yo. My go-to up-do is a messy bun – obvi! After a stressful day, I wind down with Pinterest and apparently, these things make me “basic.”
Being perfectly you is perfectly fine – whoever you want to be, just own it! Confidence is the key to success and these tips will help you build confidence and increase sales.
Exude confidence, smile, and remember: you are fortunate to have this day … make the most of it.
Excelling at sales starts with self-confidence. In order to boost your sales numbers, you have to first increase your own self worth, and be able to look beyond any hurdles you face. If you feel good about YOU, it will reflect in your everyday life and work.
Talk positively to and about yourself. Do you bring problems from home to the salon with you? Customers and your boss will pick up on this. Associate the good things in your life with having this job. There are a lot worse places you could be! Watching what you say to yourself is the best way to improve your confidence. Before anyone else will believe in you, you have to believe in yourself.
Stop the trash talk. Do you talk about your job, your boss and your salon guests like they are the most annoying things ever sent here to make your life miserable (that was dramatic, but you get my point)? People with low self-image usually speak poorly of others to make themselves feel better. Stop it! Customers and co-workers pick up on it; confidence can help you bond with your teammates.
Dress the part. How can you feel confident if you don’t feel like you look your best? A relaxed dress code doesn’t mean you jump out of bed, pull on the sweatpants with “Pink” written across the butt, an oversized tank top and UGG boots. You are selling beautiful, healthy, tanned skin. Make sure your outfit, hair and makeup reflect that image.
Use your words. Whether you’re super-shy or tend to speak your mind, you need to match the volume of your voice to your surroundings. People who lack confidence speak almost apologetically, which makes it seem like they don’t believe in what they’re selling. Consumers want a salesperson to project the utmost confidence in the product they sell.
Smile! Most of us think we smile a lot. A smile can make you more approachable and put customers at ease. People who smile are perceived as more confident. Know your strengths: your smile will always be one of them!
Remember the positives. When you make a sale, stop and think about what you did that worked. Did you make them laugh? Did you upsell them? Did they trust your knowledge? Reviewing your successes will make you a better salesperson.
Cultivate a feeling of gratitude. Throughout each day, find things to be grateful for; a relationship, a special purchase, or even the pumpkin-spice latte you had on your way to the salon. A positive and grateful attitude will reflect in everything you do.
Being unapologetically YOU is the bravest thing you can do!
