As indoor tanning professionals, there are so many positive things in our beloved industry to enjoy. For example, more and more people are following their dreams of becoming their own bosses by opening and operating tanning salons. Since these “newbies” continue to strengthen our industry, ist Magazine wishes to recognize them with this monthly “Welcome Wagon” series. We invite you, our loyal readers, to join us in giving them the friendly greeting they deserve!
Elite Tan of Gallipolis, OH brings happiness to one couple as well as an entire community!
Stacy and Michael Cooper were former high-school sweethearts who reconnected through social media. After they married, Stacy moved to Ohio to be with Michael, which necessitated a daily two-hour commute to her job in West Virginia. “Michael knew I was getting tired of this,” Stacy explained, “so he suggested we start a business together so I could work closer to home. It sounded like a good idea to me.” Michael’s friend told him that Elite Tan – a salon housed inside a historic log cabin – was for sale, and the couple purchased it and opened the doors in September.
The community has responded well to the new Elite Tan, Stacy reports, and she credits their success to a customer service focus. “We always ask our guests about their families and activities,” she said, “and they appreciate this and give us positive feedback.” Social media networking increases Elite Tan’s customer counts, while distributor rep Janet Lutz (Four Seasons Sales & Service) continues to offer the new owners her guidance. “I enjoy helping our guests so much that it has me excited about growing the business,” Stacy added. “We plan to install at least two more UV tanning units this year, and also get a nail technician and massage therapist to offer their services in the upper level of the building.”

Thanks for helping us welcome Stacy and Michael Cooper to the indoor tanning community. We look forward to meeting many more new faces and salon places in the months to come. Until then… stay sunny!
