By traveling to various regional distributor events, Sun Is Life® Director Tony Brown has helped more and more salon operators embrace everything the groundbreaking training program has to offer!
The Sun Is Life sensation is truly sweeping the nation! IST Magazine’s salon operator training and certification program continues to be a highlight at many distributor expo events across the country. Forward-thinking tanning salon owners and their staff have enjoyed the opportunity to begin experiencing Sun Is Life, thereby becoming more professional tanning tradespeople. Judging by the reactions of many expo attendees, Sun Is Life is sure to remain a popular tanning tradeshow attraction in years to come.
Sun Is Life Director Tony Brown has become a familiar face to many in the industry. “It’s a wonderful experience each time I conduct a presentation!” he exclaimed. “Everyone is always very attentive and they have a lot of great questions about a variety of topics relating to salon operation. Another topic of discussion is Sun Is Life’s direction – moving away from making health claims about UV tanning and instead, embracing the image of professionalism that results from treating what salon operators do as a trade.” Brown added that this aspect of Sun Is Life training often generates the most discussion, with attendees agreeing that this is the direction the industry needs to take in order to thrive. “The only way to gain credibility is by communicating a consistent and unified message that promotes responsible, moderate tanning without overexposure,” Tony added.
Sun Is Life’s core message was something in which Melanie Seigfried, owner of Totally Tan in Pottsville, PA, always believed. “I’ve never believed in making health claims about tanning,” she said, “even when other training organizations urged us to take that direction. We’re not doctors, we’re just here to help people look and feel good, and I’ve always stressed this with my staff. I’m glad to see a salon operator training program that embraces this philosophy.” Melanie and three Totally Tan staff members earned Sun Is Life certification at the 21st Annual Southeastern Tanning Expo in Winston-Salem, NC, co-hosted by Four Seasons Sales & Service and Forever Tan.
Brand-new salon owner Cherie Broadway found the Sun Is Life certification course extremely helpful for operating her new business, Urban Soul Tanning in Kennewick, WA. “It was great!” she exclaimed. “The presentation had so much great information, particularly on the various ways we can increase our retail sales numbers through different add-on services. I didn’t realize the opportunities provided by adding before- and after-spray services to our sunless business.” Her husband Rock, who handles the salon’s maintenance, also enjoyed the presentation. “I’m already implementing everything I’ve learned,” he added, “and it has made my job so much easier.” The couple earned their Sun Is Life Certification at the 2014 West Coast Tanning Expo hosted by All Hours International Tanning Distributors.
Visiting the various distributor events, says Tony Brown, has been a wonderful opportunity to present the Sun Is Life message to salon professionals eager for training and education. “Everyone I’ve met has been very open and honest in discussing this industry’s future,” Brown said, “and I’m pleased to see so many people realize the necessity of avoiding health claims about indoor tanning. By choosing to take this new direction, and utilizing all the useful salon operation guidelines taught in the program, I’m certain that many salon owners are going to have a great season this year!”
By blending user-friendly technology with advanced tanning training techniques, Sun Is Life is a training and certification program that addresses the needs of today’s salon operators and staff. This comprehensive program is designed to change the way salon pros deliver customer service, promote responsible and moderate tanning and exhibit professionalism.
